Elder Gender Support Group

Group Membership Requirements:

• Must self-identify as a gender diverse person (e.g., transgender male/female, non-binary, gender queer, two-spirit, etc.)

• Aged 55 and up (elder adults only)—if you are a youth please visit the One-n-Ten Center for 2SLGBTQIA+youth services https://onenten.org or perhaps join our Transitions Group

• Interested in gaining general insights as an elder person on aging, retirement planning, health behaviors, decision making

• Interested in gaining support from other gender diverse elders on issues related to gender and aging

• Community building—decrease loneliness

• Not currently experiencing active visual or auditory hallucinations

Elder Gender Support Group’s Purpose:

• This is an open-enrollment group so group members can join at any point in the year

• This group is open to maximum of 10 group members

• This group is a safe space for group members to explore issues that are important to them and where one can provide support to others when asked.

• This group is facilitated group by a mental health professional whose role is to support group members’ engagement, group cohesion, to create a safe space that is antiracist and inclusive, and when requested by group members any behavioral health supports (e.g., one session may focus on mindfulness skills to help the process of lived experience and being present and letting go of a past that cannot be changed, letting go of worrying about a future that we cannot predict, and working on acceptance of the self).

Fees:

• This group accepts donations when in person, there is never a fee

Meeting Dates:

• Every third Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7pm beginning May 19, 2022
